The Book Thief Post #4

During my search for a good book to read for my summer assignment, I stumbled across The Book Thief.  The only thing that I knew about The Book Thief was that they had recently made a movie over it. So I assumed that some people must have found it interesting because they made it into a movie. So I dug a little deeper into what it was about, I figured out that the setting took place back in Germany during World War Two. Since I am interested in history, I thought that this would be a interesting book to read. I don't relate to this novel because we are so different. I do not face the same struggles as her. For example, I don't have to worry about hiding my books because of people burning them, but she does. After reading this I feel like this book can be interesting to a multitude of people. People who Mystery, History, and Drama are just a few that would be interested in this book. The mystery is kind of a side part because the only mystery is who is the narrator? Although this isn't the main reason why this book was written, the narrator does stop throughout the book and give you hints on who he is. The whole history part is quite interesting in this novel because it impacts the story in so many ways, there are many problems and events in this story that wouldn't have happened if they weren't in this scenario. It is a very interesting book just to read and think about how the setting is impacting the story. Last but not least, this book has lots of drama in it. The best way I could describe this book is, it's an emotional roller coaster. There are many ups and downs throughout the story, some are about the main character, and other ones involve more than just her. All throughout the book, there are ups and downs that you never saw coming. I very well enjoyed this book, and I strongly believe that if you like Mystery, History, or Drama, then you will too.

The Book Thief Post 3

"First the colors. Then the humans. That's usually how I see things. Or at least, how I try. Here is a small Fact- You are going to die. I am in all truthfulness attempting to be cheerful about this whole topic, though most people find themselves hindered in believing me, no matter my protestations. Please, trust me. I most definitely can be cheerful. I can be amiable. Agreeable. Affable. And that's only the A's. Just don't ask me to be nice. Nice has nothing to do with me. Reaction To The Aforementioned Fact- Does this worry you? I urge you- don't be afraid. I'm nothing if not fair.-of course,an introduction. A beginning. Where are my manners? I can introduce myself properly, but it's not really necessary. You will know me well enough and soon enough, depending on a diverse range of variables. It suffices to say that at some point, I will be standing over you, as genially as possible. Your soul will be in my arms. A color will be perched on my shoulder. I will carry you gently away." This section of the book is right at the beginning. Now the big question is, who's the narrator? He's telling us all these weird facts, but won't reveal his identity. Right after that he becomes very creepy and mysterious in the last part of the section. He starts talking about one day he will be standing over us, and that he will gently take our soul away. This really grabbed my attention right off the bat, because this guy is very mysterious and creepy, but won't reveal himself. He says we will know him soon enough, so I'm hoping he reveals himself somewhere in the story.

The Book Thief Post #2

In The Book Thief, Liesel is a very interesting person. she is very quiet and shy. But she is also very driven and full of emotions. If she gets angry enough, she will beat someone up. At her school, a boy made her mad by making fun of her, so she kicked him in the place that will not be said, and then beat him up on the ground. Another very strange character is Rudy. He is very cocky and believes that one day, he will get a kiss from Liesel. He is growing up in Germany, yet just a while back in the book, there was an incident. Rudy used charcoal to color himself black and ran the 100M dash to act like Jesse Owens. The reason why I say that is strange is because, at that time, Germans saw themselves as superior, and everyone else wasn't. Which is why it's strange that he was coloring himself black. Two common themes in the book are courage, and suffering. Liesel has suffered an awful lot throughout the book, but she has had the courage to keep fighting, and keep getting better. The book I am reading is structured like every other book out there. But there is one thing different, the narrator sometimes gives you information about something in sort of like a list. Most of the time they would just put it with the rest to the writing, but in this, it gets its own paragraph.

The Book Thief

For my summer reading book I chose to read The Book Thief. So far I have Read eighty pages of my book. The main character in my book is Liesel Meminger. She is a Russian girl that was adopted by a German family. The strange thing about this book is that it isn't narrated by Liesel or any of her friends or family. It is narrated by some unknown person. He/She has shown signs that they are not of this world, at one point it was talking about how he collected souls; and how no one could ever do his job, which is why he can never take a vacation. I predict that the narrator will announce himself at the very end of this book. If  I had to guess who it is, I would guess that it is probably death.  The setting of this book takes place in Germany a little prior to World War Two. The town they live in is very small, but not too far from Berlin. They live in a town called Molching, the street they live on is called Himmel street. There are some other kids who live on the street as well. some of them are, Rudy, Frau, and Tommy. The major conflict is that Liesel had a baby brother as well, who was going to get adopted too. Unfortunately, he died on the train to Molching. Now it is just her with the Hubbermans. She has to try her best to fit in even though she has a huge obstacle to overcome, she can't read. At her age she should be able to read by now, but I assume her family prior to the adoption was to poor to have schooling. The reason why I infer this is because her mother couldn't afford to have children. One connection to this book to other works is that they made a movie about this book I believe just a year or two ago. I am planning on watching the movie after I read the book so I can compare the two.

Blog Post #9

As Predicted, Ren and his friends had stayed too long. As he was selling the Children's elixer, someone noticed him. Benjamin had to quickly run away, as he was doing so, his friend helped him get to the carridge. See, to get the "elixer" to actually work, they put opium in it to get the kids, "calm". When in reality, they were just getting them high. Which is why Benajmins friend had to help Ren to the carridge, because Ren was also high. after getting to the carridge, they decided to start down the road in search for Benjamin. Just downt the road, they saw him sitting behind a tree panting and exhausted. Miraculously, he still had all of the money!

After that incident, they decided to get out of that town and head towards their destination as soon as possible. Over the next few days, it was very easy traveling. When they got to the town they started there job. After a couple of days some random horse riders kidnapped them.  They had no Idea why until Ren was explained the situation. Now they have to figure out how to get out of this horrible situation.  You will have to read to find out how they get out of this one.... Or will they...?

Blog Post #8

After living in the abandoned house for a couple of days, just living on barely nothing, they got an opportunity to make some very nice cash. A friend of theirs informs them of a surgeon a couple towns away needs some "help." He needs fresh bodies from the graveyard to do his research. This is a very scetchy job because it is illegal, He needs them to be very discreet. Although is is illegal, he will pay a very good amount of money for each body. All they have to do is find a dead body,  (in the graveyard), and bring it to the back of the hospital to receive their pay.

The three of them decide that it is worth the risk. The next day they grabbed all of their things and headed on there way. On there way there, they spotted a opportunity to make some quick cash.  They mixed and bunch of liquids into bottles and called it child behavior elixir. Ren punched a kid and acted all bad to get attention.  Then Benjamin came over and gave him the product.  It worked so well that people were going crazy trying to buy some.

I predict that they will stay too long and Benjamin will get caught.  I predict this because earlier in the chapter Benjamin had said he was already caught selling a fake product here before.  I predict that someone will recognize him and they will be in big trouble.

Blog Assessment #1

Blogging Assessment #1

Overview: This is a book about a kid named Ren. He lives in America in an orphanage. He was dropped off as a child and doesn't remember her at all. The setting is back near the American revolution. There is only one problem. He only has one full arm, he only has half of the other. With only one arm it is very hard to find people to adopt him because most of the people want kids who can work on the farm, which is very difficult for Ren.

I predict that Ren will be adopted sometime in this book be a thief. Hence the title, The Good Thief. Ren has already shown that he could be a good thief because it says in the book that he sometimes takes small things throughout the orphanage. Food, small supplies, you name it. Although these things are very small, he has never been caught.” (Blog Post#2)

1.)   I usually do not use too many sophisticated words although I do have some voice. When I am stating why something is called something or if I am saying why something is, then I say Hence. I like saying Hence because it is a nice word to replace “the reason why.” I also say “you name it” because then it allows the reader to have more freedom to think beyond just what I have said. I like to allow the reader to think beyond the words itself, so that they can be more active in the reading.

2.)   I like to use commas it the sentence structure to create a list. “Food, Small supplies, you name it.” I use the commas for punctuation because I want the reader to imagine what I am talking about, instead of just saying “he stole stuff.” I like to use formal words because I personally think it sounds better than informal. “Hence” Is a word I love to use instead of saying “the reason why” because it sound more formal and still has the meaning I am looking for.
