The Book Thief Post #4
During my search for a good book to read for my summer assignment, I stumbled across The Book Thief. The only thing that I knew about The Book Thief was that they had recently made a movie over it. So I assumed that some people must have found it interesting because they made it into a movie. So I dug a little deeper into what it was about, I figured out that the setting took place back in Germany during World War Two. Since I am interested in history, I thought that this would be a interesting book to read. I don't relate to this novel because we are so different. I do not face the same struggles as her. For example, I don't have to worry about hiding my books because of people burning them, but she does. After reading this I feel like this book can be interesting to a multitude of people. People who Mystery, History, and Drama are just a few that would be interested in this book. The mystery is kind of a side part because the only mystery is who is the narrator? Although this isn't the main reason why this book was written, the narrator does stop throughout the book and give you hints on who he is. The whole history part is quite interesting in this novel because it impacts the story in so many ways, there are many problems and events in this story that wouldn't have happened if they weren't in this scenario. It is a very interesting book just to read and think about how the setting is impacting the story. Last but not least, this book has lots of drama in it. The best way I could describe this book is, it's an emotional roller coaster. There are many ups and downs throughout the story, some are about the main character, and other ones involve more than just her. All throughout the book, there are ups and downs that you never saw coming. I very well enjoyed this book, and I strongly believe that if you like Mystery, History, or Drama, then you will too.

"First the colors. Then the humans. That's usually how I see things. Or at least, how I try. Here is a small Fact- You are going to die. I am in all truthfulness attempting to be cheerful about this whole topic, though most people find themselves hindered in believing me, no matter my protestations. Please, trust me. I most definitely can be cheerful. I can be amiable. Agreeable. Affable. And that's only the A's. Just don't ask me to be nice. Nice has nothing to do with me. Reaction To The Aforementioned Fact- Does this worry you? I urge you- don't be afraid. I'm nothing if not fair.-of course,an introduction. A beginning. Where are my manners? I can introduce myself properly, but it's not really necessary. You will know me well enough and soon enough, depending on a diverse range of variables. It suffices to say that at some point, I will be standing over you, as genially as possible. Your soul will be in my arms. A color will be perched on my shoulder. I will carry you gently away." This section of the book is right at the beginning. Now the big question is, who's the narrator? He's telling us all these weird facts, but won't reveal his identity. Right after that he becomes very creepy and mysterious in the last part of the section. He starts talking about one day he will be standing over us, and that he will gently take our soul away. This really grabbed my attention right off the bat, because this guy is very mysterious and creepy, but won't reveal himself. He says we will know him soon enough, so I'm hoping he reveals himself somewhere in the story.

The Book Thief Post #2
In The Book Thief, Liesel is a very interesting person. she is very quiet and shy. But she is also very driven and full of emotions. If she gets angry enough, she will beat someone up. At her school, a boy made her mad by making fun of her, so she kicked him in the place that will not be said, and then beat him up on the ground. Another very strange character is Rudy. He is very cocky and believes that one day, he will get a kiss from Liesel. He is growing up in Germany, yet just a while back in the book, there was an incident. Rudy used charcoal to color himself black and ran the 100M dash to act like Jesse Owens. The reason why I say that is strange is because, at that time, Germans saw themselves as superior, and everyone else wasn't. Which is why it's strange that he was coloring himself black. Two common themes in the book are courage, and suffering. Liesel has suffered an awful lot throughout the book, but she has had the courage to keep fighting, and keep getting better. The book I am reading is structured like every other book out there. But there is one thing different, the narrator sometimes gives you information about something in sort of like a list. Most of the time they would just put it with the rest to the writing, but in this, it gets its own paragraph.
The Book Thief
For my summer reading book I chose to read The Book Thief. So far I have Read eighty pages of my book. The main character in my book is Liesel Meminger. She is a Russian girl that was adopted by a German family. The strange thing about this book is that it isn't narrated by Liesel or any of her friends or family. It is narrated by some unknown person. He/She has shown signs that they are not of this world, at one point it was talking about how he collected souls; and how no one could ever do his job, which is why he can never take a vacation. I predict that the narrator will announce himself at the very end of this book. If I had to guess who it is, I would guess that it is probably death. The setting of this book takes place in Germany a little prior to World War Two. The town they live in is very small, but not too far from Berlin. They live in a town called Molching, the street they live on is called Himmel street. There are some other kids who live on the street as well. some of them are, Rudy, Frau, and Tommy. The major conflict is that Liesel had a baby brother as well, who was going to get adopted too. Unfortunately, he died on the train to Molching. Now it is just her with the Hubbermans. She has to try her best to fit in even though she has a huge obstacle to overcome, she can't read. At her age she should be able to read by now, but I assume her family prior to the adoption was to poor to have schooling. The reason why I infer this is because her mother couldn't afford to have children. One connection to this book to other works is that they made a movie about this book I believe just a year or two ago. I am planning on watching the movie after I read the book so I can compare the two.

As Predicted, Ren and his friends had stayed too long. As he was selling the Children's elixer, someone noticed him. Benjamin had to quickly run away, as he was doing so, his friend helped him get to the carridge. See, to get the "elixer" to actually work, they put opium in it to get the kids, "calm". When in reality, they were just getting them high. Which is why Benajmins friend had to help Ren to the carridge, because Ren was also high. after getting to the carridge, they decided to start down the road in search for Benjamin. Just downt the road, they saw him sitting behind a tree panting and exhausted. Miraculously, he still had all of the money!
After that incident, they decided to get out of that town and head towards their destination as soon as possible. Over the next few days, it was very easy traveling. When they got to the town they started there job. After a couple of days some random horse riders kidnapped them. They had no Idea why until Ren was explained the situation. Now they have to figure out how to get out of this horrible situation. You will have to read to find out how they get out of this one.... Or will they...?

After living in the abandoned house for a couple of days, just living on barely nothing, they got an opportunity to make some very nice cash. A friend of theirs informs them of a surgeon a couple towns away needs some "help." He needs fresh bodies from the graveyard to do his research. This is a very scetchy job because it is illegal, He needs them to be very discreet. Although is is illegal, he will pay a very good amount of money for each body. All they have to do is find a dead body, (in the graveyard), and bring it to the back of the hospital to receive their pay.
The three of them decide that it is worth the risk. The next day they grabbed all of their things and headed on there way. On there way there, they spotted a opportunity to make some quick cash. They mixed and bunch of liquids into bottles and called it child behavior elixir. Ren punched a kid and acted all bad to get attention. Then Benjamin came over and gave him the product. It worked so well that people were going crazy trying to buy some.
I predict that they will stay too long and Benjamin will get caught. I predict this because earlier in the chapter Benjamin had said he was already caught selling a fake product here before. I predict that someone will recognize him and they will be in big trouble.

Blog Assessment #1
Blogging Assessment #1
“Overview: This is a book about a kid named Ren. He lives in
America in an orphanage. He was dropped off as a child and doesn't remember her
at all. The setting is back near the American revolution. There is only one
problem. He only has one full arm, he only has half of the other. With only one
arm it is very hard to find people to adopt him because most of the people want
kids who can work on the farm, which is very difficult for Ren.
I predict that Ren will be adopted sometime in this book be a thief. Hence the title, The Good Thief. Ren has already shown that he could be a good thief because it says in the book that he sometimes takes small things throughout the orphanage. Food, small supplies, you name it. Although these things are very small, he has never been caught.” (Blog Post#2)

1.)
I usually do not use too
many sophisticated words although I do have some voice. When I am stating why
something is called something or if I am saying why something is, then I say
Hence. I like saying Hence because it is a nice word to replace “the reason
why.” I also say “you name it” because then it allows the reader to have more
freedom to think beyond just what I have said. I like to allow the reader to
think beyond the words itself, so that they can be more active in the reading.
2.)
I like to use commas it
the sentence structure to create a list. “Food, Small supplies, you name it.” I
use the commas for punctuation because I want the reader to imagine what I am
talking about, instead of just saying “he stole stuff.” I like to use formal
words because I personally think it sounds better than informal. “Hence” Is a
word I love to use instead of saying “the reason why” because it sound more
formal and still has the meaning I am looking for.

After leaving Benjamin And Ren left Benjamin said that they were going to his cousins. For the night they asks some people if they could spend the night there. Before they went to sleep Benjamin told him he was lieing about all of it! Ren wasn't mad at all. They just went to bed. In the morning, they stole the man's horse before they left. Ren was very dissapointed but he was glad to leave the orphanage.
When they finally got to the port, Benjamin took him to his house, there Ren got to help benjamin make some money. I predict that Ren will become a thief as well as Benjamin. Since the They have already stolen a horse, i predict there is more from where that came from.

The column i read was called "For better vision, kids need the outdoors. This is talking about how kids using technology generally have bad vision for it. She says that we need to spend less time on electronics, and spend more time outside. My favorite line is "In the U.S. alone, the percentage of people ages 12 to 54 who are nearsighted- meaning unable to see things clearly at a distance-rose from 25 percent in the early 1970sto 42 percent now" I like this because she tells us cold hard evidence to support her "claim." It uses hyphens to pause the sentence but also to let it extend. Instead of two periods and 3 sentences, there are two hyphens and one big sentence to support her. She is a very formal writer, she gives her opinion, but then backs it up with good evidence.
Questions:
1. did you take English in college, or is writing another thing you like as well as something else?
2. Do you have kids of your own?
3.(goes with the 2nd) Are your kids what inspired you to do the column? If not, what did?

Finally. Benjamin. Benjamin is the name of a mysterious man who just came to adopt someone. He says that Ren is his little brother! He has a very crazy story about how Indians killed their parents and cut off Ren's arm. Benjamin said that he hunted down the Indians. But all that was left of their parents were their scalps!
I think this kind of story is very crazy. But I could be true. I predict that Benjamin will be a thief and he will teach Ren too. Benjamin looks like a very interesting guy.

In my book Ren feels like he has no chance of being adopted. Like it says here " the man tried not to stare but glanced in horror. " This quote is talking about when the farmer saw that Ren's arm was not there. Ren knows that the odds are very slim. If he doesn't get adopted before he turns 18, he will be sent into the army.
I feel like this situation may be common for a lot of kids all around the world. They may not have any problems, but they might feel like there Is no way they will ever get adopted. I still predict though, that Ren will either escape the home or he will get adopted by a thief. Hence the name The Good Thief.

blog post #1 Characterization
Guy, Montag
Just a normal firemen for 10 years. Though these firemen are burning books instead of saving people from fires. Guy is just like every other fireman, loves fire, loves burning, and books mean nothing to him. He is married to his wife, Mildred. They live a fairly normal life. But when the story develops more and more, Guy starts to question why books are being burned. He has noticed how mindless everyone is and how carefree they are. I think the most important quote he said is, "does it have a happy ending." he really starts wondering about happiness and if he is happy after clarisse asks him if he is happy. As he is wondering that, he starts realizing how unhappy HE is. Eventually he starts stashing books away and then reading them to find out why they are so important to burn.

This is how guy is imagined on the cover of Fahrenheit 451/ He looks very serious and a little burnt from the flames on his cheeks.Although he looks very serious, he is just like every man. Clarisse says, "so many people are. Afraid of firemen, I mean. But you're just a man after all... In this quote Clarisse is stating how normal he is and that he is no different from everyone else.
